Welcome to Freshman Week 2018!

UL Lafayette welcomes the Class of 2022 to campus for Freshman Week 2018! We are excited to have you here and are pleased to offer a variety of activities to make your first week on campus fun, educational, and most importantly, welcoming! 

Summer time in Louisiana means weather happens.  Follow @ULGetInvolved for schedule and weather updates! View the campus map to find out where events are located.

The week's activities include First-Year Info Sessions designed to help you succeed. Get your passport* stamped at every session you attend during Freshman Week, then turn it in to your Peer Mentor during Cajun Connection on Thursday, August 16, 2018.

For every session you attend, you will be entered into a drawing for great prizes! Sessions are easily recognizable in the Activities Schedule below, highlighted in yellow. *Pick up a passport at the first session you attend.

10am - 4pm, HILLIARD MUSEUM OPEN TO FRESHMAN ONLY! @ Hilliard University Art Museum
Enjoy the a/c and explore the exhibitions at the Hilliard University Art Museum! UL Students receive free admission year round but only Freshman receive free admission today. Learn more about how you can work and volunteer at the museum during your time at UL as well as how to make the best use of our resources. We'll also have giveaways available throughout the day.
 
FIRST-YEAR INFO SESSION #1
11am - 11:45am, “Working in College: When, Where, Why?” @ Union-Louisiane Room
Get all the information you need to know about having part-time jobs and internships while you are in college. This session will tell you where to find these jobs, the best time to have a job, and why these experiences are important for your career readiness after college.
 

12pm, OUT-OF-STATE STUDENT PROGRAM @ Union-The Brew
Out of state residents will have an opportunity to meet local alumni and learn about their experiences while being a student at UL and how to navigate being in their first year.  Meet at The Brew in the Union.

2pm - 2:30pm, “The Balancing Act of Managing Time in College” @ Union-Louisiane Room
The transition from high school to college is stressful when it comes to balancing your time. Learn how to juggle your responsibilities and set priorities with your job, classes, homework, friends, and more!

3pm - 3:45pm, “What's Happening the First Two Weeks on Campus" @ Union-Louisiane Room
Find out about the multiple events and activities happening on campus in your first two weeks! This is your chance to find out more about how to get involved on campus and meet the people who can get you connected!
 
3pm - 5pm, BLACK P.R.I.N.T.: Black Card Revoked @ Union-Bayou Room
You’ve seen the TV show and now you get to participate LIVE! Hosted by our very own Theta Xi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., students’ will debate and be tested on their knowledge of life from the African-American perspective – with topics varying from pop culture, to historical facts and politics. Come see if you can keep your ‘Black Card’ from being REVOKED!

4pm - 4:45pm, “Major Conversation: How do you fit in?” @ Union-Louisiane Room
With all the information available about majors and careers, there is no shortage of opinions, advice, stereotypes and myths to come with it. What about your ideas? What about what you bring to the table? What about how you will create the future? What about the facts? Join this session to find out more about how you are a major part of the conversation when it comes to choosing an academic major.

Information session regarding Q&A about Sorority Recruitment!

Get connected with the local barbers and beauticians you need to know! Coming to a new town can be tough and finding someone to take care of your personal grooming can be even tougher. Discover who’s available to keep you looking fresh your entire freshmen year.
 
6pm - 8pm, FRESHMEN INVITED TO FOOTBALL PRACTICE @ Cajun Field
Coach Napier would like to invite all incoming freshmen to attend an open football practice to get a glimpse of this year's team.
 
7pm - 8pm, RESIDENCE HALL FLOOR MEETINGS @ your residence hall
First year students living in the residence halls need to meet with their respective RA on their floor to learn residence hall updates and policies.

Did you always struggle with math? Did you always make A's in math class? Come to this session to learn every single math resource UL provides to freshman so you can say you mastered math your first year!

Welcome to Adulthood- and with adulting comes great responsibility: VOTING! Visit with the men of Alpha Phi Alpha and Omega Psi Phi to learn how to take the first steps to begin using your voice as an American citizen.

Begin college with financial confidence! Get money-saving tips, learn the basics of borrowing and using credit cards, and discover how to protect your credit. Make the most of your money, starting today!

Enjoy popsicles from Pops & Rockets while cuddling with therapy animals from Pet Partners of Acadiana.

Here's your chance to establish connections amongst other freshmen in your class as well as upperclassmen you may encounter throughout your time at UL. Create study groups within your majors, meet people with common interests as you, or even find your next business partner! Attire: Casual

3pm - 3:45pm, “The Lafayette Experience” @ Union-Louisiane Room
Whether you're new to town, or just excited about all the opportunity ahead of you in college, come learn about a variety of extracurricular activities all around Lafayette! Art, sports, parks, hiking, paddling, socializing, or "festival-ing" (it's a thing!) - it's all around us!
 
FIRST-YEAR INFO SESSION #9
4pm - 4:45pm, “College is More than Going to Class” @ Union-Lousiane Room
An important part of college learning happens outside of going to class. There is no better way than getting involved in campus activities and programs in order to make this community of 19,000 people seem much smaller and even familiar. Whether you have five minutes a week or five hours, this session will show you endless ways to connect with UL and gain marketable life skills at the same time. Have fun and add your special and unique personality to our campus culture! Make UL the place you want it to be and leave an impact when you leave. We want this to be YOU-L!

5pm - 6pm, “UL Academic Mentoring Matters” @ Union-Louisiane Room
Find out how the UL Academic Mentoring Matters Network can help students in the schools of Science and Engineering to "get the grade" and achieve academic success. Learn how working with your peers improves your academic experience, and how resources on campus help build a strong academic peer network. Participate in activities that encourage reflection on effective academic practices for college level science and engineering courses.

Come take a dip with the Coleman Kids: The Theta Xi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and The Gamma Delta Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. as they bring the party to the pool! Food and beverages will be provided.

Meet fellow incoming freshmen in a fast-paced and fun environment! Questions will be provided. Walk in and out as you please.
 
5pm - 9pm, SWAMP PARTY & FOOD TRUCKS @ Boucher Street (between the Rose Garden and the Union)
Food Truck Roundup on Boucher Street, raffles and games throughout the Union by different organizations, Dunking Booth for Dunk Your DG out on Cypress Lake Plaza, Mechanical Bull, Big Red Chair, AFA Photobooth, Find a Crawfish. Concessions will be for sale (cash only).
 
6pm - 7:30pm, GAME SHOW @ Union-Bayou Bijou
Join UPC for a fast-paced Game Show in Bayou Bijou. Cash prizes and giveaways will be handed out for winners and participants.

NPHC, IFC, Panhellenic, and Multicultural organizations will be giving out breakfast for incoming students.

8am - 12:30pm, CAJUN CONNECTION-UNIV 100 CLASS check-in @ The Quad
This is your start to your UNIV 100 course where you'll meet your instructor, peer mentor, and classmates. Check-in will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Quad. Class of 2022 photo at 9:00 a.m. Class begins promptly at 9:15 a.m. in your Cajun Connection classroom (view more info about Cajun Connection and find out where your Cajun Connection classroom is here).

6pm, FRUIT NINJA @ BCM, 1226 Johnston St.
Are you restless from being in classes all day? Well, this is the event for you! Come get all of your energy out by slicing up fruit with swords just like the classic mobile game Fruit Ninja! Not only will you be able to get your ninja on, you can also come inside and fight in a sumo suit then sit down and eat some Chick-fil-A with us.
 
6pm - 7:30pm, BLACK P.R.I.N.T.: CAREER FASHION SHOW @ Union-Atchafalaya Ballroom
Find out all the Do’s & Don’ts of dressing professionally, all while watching a mean catwalk down the runway.

BYOBlanket for an outdoor picnic and movie event.  Plant your own Louisiana wildflowers and watch The Lorax with Res Life and the Office of Sustainability. Food will be available for purchase from local food trucks (cash only).

Do you know all the words to your favorite songs without mumbling? Time to separate the fans from the stans with a little game of karaoke – Trap Edition with the men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.! Nappy Hour Social will be hosted in the ballroom simultaneously for those ready to hit the dance floor!

Residents will ride Geaux Velo bikes and their own personal bikes to the local Farmer's Market. You can register your bike with UL Police Department.
 
10am - 11am, MORNING YOGA @ Union-Cypress Lake Plaza
Move fluidly through the traditional yoga postures while linking your mind and body. Yoga will help enhance your flexibility, strength and balance as well as make you feel more centered and relaxed.
 
10:30am - 11:30am, CAJUN WILDCARD WORKOUTS @ Bourgeois Hall-Training Studio
Start the weekend off on the right foot and join us for a surprise workout! This class will have rotating instructors and formats, meaning the class could be any one of the classes we offer on our schedule.

 
11am - 5pm, SHOPPING IN LAFAYETTE @ River Marketplace & Ambassador Town Center
Need to shop for last minute supplies, residence hall decorations, or just want to get off campus? Buses will run from 11 am to 5 pm from the Student Union to two of Lafayette's premier shopping centers, the River Marketplace and Ambassador Town Center. Bus pickup to get back to campus will be from the Target (River Marketplace) and Costco (Ambassador Town Center) parking lots. The last pickup is at 5:30 p.m. (don't get left behind!)
5pm - 8pm, DROP-IN SPORTS @ the Rose Garden (behind Coronna Hall)
Get moving with Rec Sports. Drop-in and have some fun with a little friendly competition. We will have open games of Cornhole, Spike Ball, and soccer in the Rose Garden.
 
10pm - 12am, RHA FOAM PARTY @ the Rose Garden (behind Coronna Hall)
RHA is hosting their annual foam party.
