Welcome to Freshman Week 2017!

UL Lafayette welcomes the Class of 2021 to campus for Freshman Week 2017! We are excited to have you here and are pleased to offer a variety of activities to make your first week on campus fun, educational, and most importantly, welcoming!

First-Year Info Sessions PassportThe week's activities include First-Year Info Sessions designed to help you succeed. Get your passport* stamped at every session you attend during Freshman Week, then turn it in to your Peer Mentor during Cajun Connection on Thursday. For every session you attend, you will be entered into a drawing for great prizes! Sessions are easily recognizable in the Activities Schedule below, highlighted in yellow. *Pick up a passport at the first session you attend.

Your first night @ UL, now what? How about a Massive Block Party! Behind Papa John’s @ Johnston & St. Mary. Free snowballs, giveaways, karaoke, dodge ball, and beach volleyball.

11am - 11:45am, “Working in College: When, Where, Why?” @ Union-Teche Room
Get all the information you need to know about having part-time jobs and internships while you are in college. This session will tell you where to find these jobs, the best time to have a job, and why these experiences are important for your career readiness after college.
12pm - 12:45pm, OUT-OF-STATE PEERS MEET, GREET, & EAT @ Union-Evangeline Art Gallery
Come out and meet your peers from out of state while enjoying great Cajun food.
12pm - 3pm, NPHC POOL PARTY @ Student Aquatics Center, Bourgeois Hall
Come beat the heat with the National Pan-Hellenic Council Greeks as they welcome you to UL by the pool! Food, music, and fun will be provided!

Find out about the myriad of events and activities happening on campus in your first two weeks! This is your chance to find out more about how to get involved on campus and meet the people who can get you connected!

4pm - 4:45pm, “Finding the Perfect Major” @ Union-Teche Room
One of the most anxiety-producing aspects of college is choosing the perfect major. Everyone from parents to teachers to friends to random strangers has an opinion on the matter. Stop the madness! This session will tell you everything you need to know to make the right choice for you!
4pm - 5pm, RESIDENCE HALL FLOOR MEETING @ your residence hall
All freshmen living in the residence halls must attend a mandatory floor meetings to learn about residence halls policies.
5pm - 6pm, TAILGATE WITH YOUNG LIFE COLLEGE @ Boucher Street
After a long Monday of meetings, swing by Boucher St. for popsicles and classic tailgate games!

How do you establish credit? What makes up your credit score and report? What is the easiest way to have a good/bad credit score? How do you determine the difference between good and bad debt? What should you avoid when using your debit card? Get answers to these questions and more with a representative from the UL Federal Credit Union!
1:30pm - 2:30pm, PUPPIES & POPSICLES @ Dupre Library
Chill out in the library's air conditioning with popsicles from Pops and Rockets and certified therapy dogs from Pet Partners of Acadiana!

Whether you're new to town, or just excited about all the opportunity ahead of you in college, come learn about a variety of extracurricular activities all around Lafayette! Art, sports, parks, hiking, paddling, socializing, or "festival-ing" (it's a thing!) - it's all around us!

Your first year of college is one of the most life-changing years you will ever experience. You're suddenly thrown into an entirely new setting and expected to fend for yourself in unfamiliar territory. The most important thing you can do for yourself is to get involved. Hear from members of the Student Leadership Council on how you can get involved at UL. There will be DOOR PRIZES!

6pm - 7pm, “Ragin' Cajun Peer Network” @ Union-Bayou Bijou
Find out how the Ragin’ Cajun Peer Network can help students in the schools of Science and Engineering to "get the grade" and achieve academic success. Learn how working with your peers improves your academic experience, and how resources on campus help build a strong academic peer network. Participate in activities that encourage reflection on effective academic practices for college level science and engineering courses.

Hear from university staff and faculty on how to effectively communicate inside and outside the classroom.

Life as a commuter student is exciting yet can be challenging at times. Come out, enjoy dessert, and meet your fellow commuter students, and get some tips for living off campus and gain information on part time jobs.
5pm - 7pm, BBQ NIGHT IN THE CAF @ Union-Cypress Lake Dining Room
Join us for great BBQ the first night that residential meal swipes are accepted in the cafeteria!

7:30am - 4pm, CAJUN CONNECTION-UNIV 100 CLASS (MANDATORY) check-in @ Union-Courtyard
This is your start to your UNIV 100 course where you'll meet your instructor, peer mentor, and classmates. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Student Union Courtyard (the grassy area between the back of the Student Union and Cypress Lake). After checking in, head to your Cajun Connection classroom by 8 a.m. Class begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided for all UNIV 100 students attending Cajun Connection. Adulting is hard. Come and re-live your childhood one more time as you bounce the night away within our inflatable paradise while enjoying a plethora of free Chick-fil-a sandwiches. JUMP like you're 6'8", EAT like you're a kid in a candy shop and then REPEAT just because you can.

11am - 12pm, ROOMMATES: BEHIND CLOSED DOORS @ Union-Helma Constantine Forum A & B
Learn how to navigate conflict resolution and roommate relationships. Resident Assistants act out scenarios that will show you communication skills to solve issues with your roommate. This session will be interactive and allow you an opportunity to have dialogue about "potential issues" before they arise! We encourage you to attend with your roommate!
7pm - 9pm, BMLA GAMESHOW: BEAT SHAZAM @ Union-Bayou Bijou
The Black Male Leadership Association and Point Blank Productions bring this unique and interactive game show to UL. Players compete against each other to identify some of the greatest hit songs of all time. In each round, players are presented with different musical categories, and players must identify the songs before time runs out!

Need to shop for last minute supplies, residence hall decorations, or just want to get off campus? Buses will run every hour from 11 am to 5 pm from the Student Union to two of Lafayette's premier shopping centers, the River Marketplace and Ambassador Town Center. Bus pickup to get back to campus will be from the Target (River Marketplace) and Costco (Ambassador Town Center) parking lots and will run every half hour. The last pickup is at 5:30 p.m. (don't get left behind!)

MOVIE MADNESS: "BAYWATCH" @ Union-Bayou Bijou
Join UPC for Movie Madness featuring Baywatch! We will be showing the movie throughout the day for you to enjoy. Once a month, UPC will be showing movies during the semester. Bring your student ID and come check it out! Concessions will be sold.

Movie start times: 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6:00 p.m., 8:30 p.m.
